PANAJI: Goa Cricket Association Premier Division League T20 witnessed two exciting encounters at Sanguem-Cotarli as Salgaocar Cricket Club and Geno Sports Club registered victories to strengthen their campaign in the tournament.
In the afternoon match, Dempo Cricket Club posted a competitive total of 170 for 7 in 20 overs after electing to bat first. Aman Dhooper top scored with 45 runs, while Aditya contributed 41 and Rahul Mehta added 26. Mohit Yadav remained unbeaten on 18 at the end of the innings. For Salgaocar, Ruthvik Naik and Fardeen Khan delivered impressive bowling spells, picking up three wickets each.
Chasing 171, Salgaocar Cricket Club produced a dominant batting display to seal an eight wicket victory with eight balls to spare. Azaan Thota played an aggressive knock of 53 off 31 deliveries, while Piyush Yadav smashed 60 runs to anchor the chase. Captain Yash Kasvankar remained unbeaten on 31 and Tunish Sawkar stayed not out on 23 as Salgaocar comfortably reached 174 for 2 in 18.4 overs. Rahul Mehta claimed both wickets for Dempo.
The second match produced a nail biting finish as Geno Sports Club edged past Chowgule Sports Club by one wicket in the final over. Chowgule Sports Club earlier scored 170 for 6 in their 20 overs, powered by a brilliant unbeaten 76 off just 36 balls from Shivendra Bhujbal. Darshan Misal scored 41 while Sanath Nevagi chipped in with 28. Vikas Singh and Manish Kakode picked up two wickets each for Geno.
In reply, Geno Sports Club chased down the target in dramatic fashion, finishing on 171 for 9 in 20 overs. Manish Kakode scored 40 and Veer Yadav added 37, while Kaushal Hattangadi contributed 20. Shiven Borkar and Samarth Rane held their composure in the closing stages to guide Geno to a thrilling victory.
The first semifinal on Friday will see Margao Cricket Club take on Chowgule Sports Club in the afternoon, while Salgaocar Cricket Club will face Geno Sports Club in the evening semifinal clash.
