CANACONA: Stating that Canaconcars are demanding for better health facilities since 2011, Canacona Citizens Health Welfare Committee (CCHWC) blamed the government and particularly the Health minister for ignoring Canconcars health issues.
‘Since 2011, we have been making regularly making demands to provide facilities, provide doctors, supply medicine, provide experts/technicians/Lab-Assistants for handling various technical equipments, and make arrangements for doctor’s/medical staff accommodation facilities in the only Government Hospital in Canacona but the demands made are neither fulfilled and vehementally ignored by subsequents’, said CCHWC convenor Diogo Da Silva.
We are told that Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar met Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, discussed the serious health issues with Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, but Canacona people claim its for no use.
Canacona CHC is equipped with better medical equipment than any CHC in the State, but there are neither technicians nor the knowledgeable medics to operate these medical equipment. There is ultrasound machinery, but no technician to operate it, and the similar is the fate of other important medical equipment available at CHC Canacona,’,.
Despite writing letters to the Health Director, neither facilities nor manpower/medics are deputed in the hospital’, said CCHWC President Diego Da Silva, questioning the government if the government takes Canacona residents as tissue paper.
‘No obstetrician, paediatrician, orthopedic specialist, full time cardiologist in the CHC hospital. Diego da Silva further said that there are x-ray, sonography machines but no technicians / experts to operate these machines’,. Da Silva and others talking to the media after visiting the ill-equipped CHC on Friday accompanied by many of the senior citizens. Honarto Fernandes, Natividade de Sa, Shivaji Desai, Ervil Barreto, Gaspar Coutinho, Janardhan Bhandari, Piedade Pereira, Maya Metri and and many others were present spoke about the various ailments Canacona CHC suffers with.
De Sa regretfully said, ‘we are very much disappointed despite repeatedly raising our voices regarding Canacona CHC, not much is done nor is the government is taking it in their stride to improve the medical facilities.
Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari said, ‘The issue of Canacona’s only government Hospital is the problem of every resident in the taluka, and we are present here today to support the senior citizens. This question should be taken up by the youth, threatening the next course of action will be decided in due time.
Congress (South) District organising Secretary Gaspar Coutinho who was part of the delegations who visited the hospital and scrutinize the facilities being extended to in-house and out patients was visibly upset for the poor services provided to the people and have vehemently demanded that Canacona CHC should be upgraded to a Sub –District Hospital so that people gets improvised and emergency services with the postings of all required doctors, technicians and other medics eligible under Sub-District Hospital category.-
