Panaji: Goa produced a determined batting performance in their second innings to secure a draw against Maharashtra in the senior men’s multi day practice match at the MCA International Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.
After conceding a massive 324 run first innings deficit, Goa faced an uphill task to save the match. However, the Goan batters showed strong resistance and denied Maharashtra the chance to force a victory.
Goa, who were sent in to bat first after Maharashtra won the toss, were bowled out for 261 in 77.4 overs. Shivendra Bhujbal top scored with 64, while Yash Kasvankar contributed 58. Hitesh Walunj and Rajvardhan Hangargekar picked up two wickets each for Maharashtra.
Maharashtra then took firm control of the contest with a huge total of 585 for seven declared in 125 overs. Prithvi Shaw led the charge with a commanding 241 off 295 balls, hitting 34 boundaries and two sixes. Ankit Bawane added 131, while S.S. Nawale remained unbeaten on 77.
Shubham Tari was Goa’s most successful bowler, finishing with four wickets for 101 runs, while Amulya Pandrekar and Darshan Misal claimed one wicket each.
With a daunting deficit to overcome, Goa returned with a disciplined approach in their second innings. Captain Abhinav Tejrana took responsibility at the top of the order and produced an unbeaten 103, anchoring the fightback.
Manthan Khutkar provided excellent support with an unbeaten 61, while Suyash Prabhudessai scored 24. Goa finished on 193 for one in 44 overs, losing only the wicket of Prabhudessai.
Hangargekar claimed the sole wicket for Maharashtra, but Goa’s determined resistance ensured there was no further breakthrough before the match ended in a draw.
