PANAJI: Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan (MBA) Convenor Nirmala Sawant stated that Goa officers are free to visit the River Mhadei site at any time and that Karnataka cannot stop them thanks to a 2009 Supreme Court order.
“There was an order passed by the three-member Supreme Court Bench on February 20, 2009 which should be used by the members of PRAWAH, We can definitely visit the site, the PRAWAH members or the Goa government must use this order to inform the Karnataka government officials. This order gives us great confidence that we will prevail in the Mhadei battle,” said Sawant.
Sawant claims that state government representatives have even received some of the orders. In the end, the State bears the brunt. Nobody can stop journalists from visiting the website, even if they so choose.
“We are prepared to back the administration. Although we would prefer not to be members, the government ought to accept our assistance. Government is trying to resolve the issue in its own way,” she said.
The MBA convenor stated, “It does not want to go the other way around.”
“We notified the government, but their response was nonchalant.” This is the critical moment. With this order, we can take them (Karnataka),” she declared.
