New Delhi: Goa took a major step towards positioning itself as India’s leading workation destination with the launch of the first ever Goa Shackathon at Baga beach on Thursday. The two day event aims to showcase the concept of “Work from Goa” by blending technology, entrepreneurship and remote working with the state’s coastal lifestyle.
The event has been organised by the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications along with the Startup and IT Promotion Cell. It has brought together startup founders, digital nomads, creators, designers, students and entrepreneurs from across the country.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the event along with Tourism and IT Minister Rohan Khaunte in the presence of government officials, industry leaders and participants.
Addressing the gathering, Sawant said the younger generation is redefining careers by prioritising flexibility, creativity and mental well being over traditional office culture. He said the government is building a strong ecosystem to make Goa India’s preferred destination for work from home and work from beach opportunities.
Khaunte highlighted Goa’s growing appeal among remote workers, entrepreneurs and professionals who are increasingly choosing the state as a base because of its quality of life, creative freedom and emerging startup ecosystem. He added that Goa is developing a new model for the future of work backed by digital innovation and future ready governance.
The event also featured a felicitation ceremony recognising women under the Mahila Digital Sashaktikaran Yojana, local trainees in 3D printing and members of Goa’s creative community for their contributions and skill development.
Several sessions focused on the future of work, communication, entrepreneurship and innovation. Industry leaders and startup founders participated in discussions on building companies from Goa and the advantages of scaling ventures from the state.
An exhibition zone featuring live demonstrations by startups and technology firms added to the attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into Goa’s growing technology and innovation landscape. The final day of the event is expected to feature more networking sessions, collaborations and technology driven discussions.
