PANAJI: In a landmark development for India’s high-tech manufacturing sector, Goa has become home to the country’s first commercial 3D printing facility. The Advanced Additive Manufacturing Facility, established by Nirmitsu Design Labs in collaboration with global 3D printing leader 3D Systems, was officially inaugurated in Old Goa, setting the stage for transformative growth in aerospace, defence, tooling, and industrial design.
The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Government of Goa, alongside key dignitaries including Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai, Bank of Maharashtra Zonal Manager Anand Dingankar, and senior leadership from Nirmitsu Design Labs and 3D Systems India.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Khaunte highlighted the facility’s role in propelling Goa into the forefront of Industry 4.0. “This is more than a technology milestone—it is a glimpse into Goa’s future as a hub for advanced innovation. With robust policies in electronics manufacturing and our vision for a knowledge-driven economy, we’re equipping our youth with the skills and opportunities to shape tomorrow,” he said, pointing to the development of the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Tuem as a key part of this vision.
The facility showcases two high-end 3D printers: the EXT Titan 1070 Pellet Extrusion System and the Figure 4 Standalone Resin 3D Printer. These machines offer rapid, precision manufacturing of advanced plastic and composite parts, meeting the rigorous needs of critical sectors such as defence and aerospace.
Mr. Iraj Sheth, Co-founder and Director of Nirmitsu Design Labs, emphasized the broader mission behind the initiative. “This isn’t just about machines—it’s about unlocking innovation. Our goal is to empower creators and entrepreneurs to turn ideas into impactful products through cutting-edge manufacturing,” he said.
Nirmitsu’s model focuses on sustainable, on-demand production that reduces reliance on extended supply chains, while promoting faster prototyping and innovation. The company aims to become a global leader in 3D printing technology solutions.
Backing this vision, Shri Deelip Menezes, Managing Director of 3D Systems India, announced the signing of an MoU with Nirmitsu to provide ongoing support. “We are excited to collaborate with Nirmitsu and contribute to the evolution of India’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem,” he said.
The launch not only boosts Goa’s industrial capabilities but also opens doors for startups, MSMEs, and academic institutions to engage in high-tech R&D and prototyping. The Government of Goa sees this as a key step in building a robust, innovation-led economy driven by collaboration between industry, government, and academia.
The project aligns with India’s broader goals of self-reliance, digital transformation, and global competitiveness in manufacturing, with Goa poised to become a national model for high-tech industrial development.
