Panaji: Goa’s men’s team delivered an impressive performance at the 3rd Lacrosse Federation Cup in Himachal Pradesh, reaching the quarterfinals after a dominant run in the league stage and showcasing the growing strength of the sport in the state.
Led by captain Moshe Devappa and guided by player cum head coach Mangesh Pawar, Goa opened their campaign in commanding fashion with a convincing 5 0 victory over Jammu and Kashmir. Siddharth Desai scored once, while Sarvam Deulkar struck twice. Mahesh Kandkura and Swapnil Desai also found the net as Goa completely controlled the contest.
The team continued its excellent form in the second pool match, overpowering Pondicherry 7 0 with another dominant attacking display. Siddharth Desai starred with four goals, while Swapnil Desai added two and Sarvam contributed one to seal another comprehensive win.
Goa’s final league encounter against Maharashtra turned out to be a thrilling contest. Despite spirited performances from the Goan side, the team narrowly went down 6 7 after Maharashtra scored the decisive goal in the closing moments of the match. Siddharth netted twice for Goa, while Sarvam, Swapnil, and Mahesh added one goal each in a closely fought battle.
With two strong victories in the league stage, Goa advanced to the quarterfinals where they faced Rajasthan. Goa battled hard but eventually suffered a 1 3 defeat, with Swapnil Desai scoring the lone goal for the side.
Other members of the squad included Gautam Gaude and Pratik Panshikar, both of whom contributed to Goa’s determined campaign.
Although the team’s journey ended in the quarterfinals, Goa’s performances throughout the tournament highlighted the squad’s teamwork, fighting spirit, and growing potential on the national lacrosse stage.
