Panaji: President of Goa Pradesh Youth Congress, Adv. Varad Mardolkar, on Monday came out in strong support of various NGOs and their consistent efforts, in view of their recent victory in getting the double tracking from Kullem to Castle Rock and construction of the TANMAR power line suspended, with permission of NH4 now subject to environmental clearance. The President further mentioned that ‘Keeping in mind how fragile the environment, flora & fauna and the way of life of local people is in the state, we have the utmost respect for The Goa Foundation, its directors Adv. Norma Alvares and Dr. Claude Alvares, their team of legal experts, Goencho Avaaz, Dr. Bolmax Pereira, his youth groups, Goencho Ekvott and all other NGOs/organisations that have worked relentlessly to save our precious state from environmental devastation’.
Other members of the GPYC, including Gen. Secretary Adv. Archit Naik, emphasised that organisations like Heritage Action Group of Goa, VACAD, GFDO, Goenche Rakhandar, GAKUVED, Goencho Ramponkarancho Ekvott and various groups related to the Fishing community too played vital roles in arriving at this welcome conclusion to a long and hard fought battle. Adv. Archit Naik stated ‘Without the efforts of so many groups, we would have seen the complete destruction of Goa, our precious state. We are grateful to every single Goan who came forward to send a strong message of our unity to vested interests that are hell bent on destroying Goa’. The GPYC has made it clear that they stand in solidarity with the protection of Goa, its people, their way of life, and most importantly its precious environment.
