BICHOLIM: Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has promised the court that till the next hearing, he will not speak negatively about Sulakshana Sawant, the wife of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
At a hearing before the Civil Judge, Senior Division, Bicholim, on Friday, Singh’s attorney, Adv S Bodke, gave the guarantee. Singh will not restate any of the claims that Sulakshana Sawant, the plaintiff in her defamation lawsuit, had contested, according to Adv. Bodke’s submission to the court.
Additionally, he asked for more time to reply to the plaintiff’s plea for a temporary injunction and provide a written statement.
“Until the next date of hearing or filing reply to the application, the defendant will not make any defamatory statements or the statements to which the plaintiff objected in the plaint made against the plaintiff,” Adv. Bodke promised the Civil Judge, Senior Bicholim Division.
The case concerns Sulakshana Sawant’s Rs 100-crore defamation lawsuit, in which she accused Singh of falsely accusing her.
The claims were related to the multi-crore government employment scam involving cash.
The Court had set a deadline of January 10, 2025, for Singh’s answer to the suit, which was filed last month.
Singh allegedly levelled the accusations against Sulakshana Sawant during a news conference held in the party’s national office in Delhi on December 5, 2024, alongside Goa AAP leaders.
In her complaint, Sulakshana has asked the court to order Singh to issue an apology, stating unequivocally that the defamatory video, article, interview, and assertions were untrue and not supported by evidence.
Additionally, she had requested for a permanent order to prevent the AAP MP from posting any disparaging remarks about her on any social media platforms. For additional procedures, the Court has postponed the case until January 24, 2025.
