PANAJI: Goa is set to host the 37th West Zone Junior Athletics Championship 2026 from September 27 to 29 at the Atal Athletics Stadium, Cujira.
The championship is being organised by the Goa Athletic Association in collaboration with the Athletics Federation of India and the Sports Authority of Goa. Junior athletes from eight states across the West Zone are expected to participate, giving young competitors an opportunity to test themselves at the zonal level and compete for honours.
Ahead of the championship, the 124-member Goa athletics team was presented with official kits at the Atal Stadium on September 24. A group photograph of the Goa contingent was also taken during the programme as the young athletes prepared for the three-day competition.
The event will feature competition across various track and field disciplines, with athletes looking to produce strong performances and establish themselves at the higher levels of the sport. The championship is also expected to provide promising athletes with valuable competitive exposure as they aim to progress towards national level competitions.
Speaking during the programme, Goa Athletic Association president Narendra Sawaikar shared details about the championship and highlighted the importance of hosting a major junior athletics event in Goa.
With athletes from across the West Zone converging in the state, the championship is expected to provide sports enthusiasts with three days of competitive athletics and an opportunity to watch some of the region’s emerging talent.
