MORMUGAO: In opposition to Goa Shipyard Limited’s (GSL) new promotion policy, approximately 700 out of 900 employees have refused to accept it. Goa Shipyard Mazdoor Sangh (Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh) has alleged that this policy is against the employees’ interests and is being forcefully implemented.
Union President K. Prakash stated, “This policy is harmful to the future of employees and is being enforced unilaterally, solely for the benefit of the management.” He also mentioned that around 700 employees at GSL have submitted ‘Rejection Letters’ to the management, protesting the policy.
The union further accused the management of suppressing employees’ voices and ignoring their legitimate concerns. The union strongly criticized this and termed it a disregard for employees’ rights.
The union has demanded that the policy be revised to reflect the interests of employees and be based on their suggestions and consent. The union also pointed out that there have been no industrial relations (IR) incidents at GSL in the past 20 years. However, due to this faulty policy, employees have been forced to take such steps.
Additionally, the union highlighted that no union elections have been conducted at GSL, depriving employees of their right to choose their representatives. The union urged the management to conduct fair elections to ensure employees’ genuine voices are heard.
From December 5 to 7, the union organized a protest by wearing black armbands and presented their demands to the management.
In conclusion, Union President K. Prakash stated, “We will continue our struggle at every level to protect the employees’ rights. If the management ignores our demands, we will escalate our protest.”
Goa Shipyard Mazdoor Sangh (Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh) stands firm for the rights of the employees.
