Mopa: Manohar International Airport (MIA), developed and operated by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd. (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd (GIL), is proud to announce the arrival of the first freighter carrying 22 tons of goods showcasing GMR Goa Air Cargo Logistic (GGACL) Terminal and Airport’s capability to handle substantial freight operations.
Chapman Freeborn Air charters with BBN Airlines Turkey have organised an A321 Freighter aircraft with 22 Tons of cargo to arrive at GOX airport on the 24th of July 2024, early morning hours. This is the first commercial freighter operation at GOX and in Goa using an MDL/LDL to offload cargo. GGACL organised the offload, storage and clearance with GMR’s state-of-the-art cargo facilities. The first freighter landing at MIA marked a significant milestone. This has set a benchmark for airlift opportunities of heavy and odd-dimensional freighter cargo. This will pave the way and testimonial for carriers awaiting to operate at GOX and use GOX as the preferred cargo hub of western India.
MIA commenced air cargo operations on September 8 and has handled approximately 5,000 MT of domestic/international air cargo through Air India, Oman Air, Indigo, Akasa, Vistara, and SpiceJet.
GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) has built an integrated GMR Goa Air Cargo Logistic Terminal with a capacity to handle 25,000 MT of cargo per annum in Phase I. This can go up to 2 lakh MT per annum. GGACL with its full-fledged cargo infrastructure and skilled manpower has created a new cargo destination Airport at GOX providing quick turnaround of the freighters at GOX.
This event is expected to boost the region’s economic activities and improve logistical connectivity.
