PANAJI: Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao said that the Goa Miles taxi app service can do business only in the city and cannot enter the hotels to pick customers as it will harm the interest of local businesses.
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao called a meeting of Hotels representative and taxi operators, which was also attended by Police officials.
Most of the representatives of Benaulim hotels in Benaulim have attended the meeting. This meeting was called to end the dispute between GoaMiles, tour operators, and the local taxi operators association.
“The taxi operators depend on the tourist coming from outside the state and the foreign tourist. As Goa is a small state, the local crowd don’t use much taxi service for travelling. We have not cheated anyone. As per the tariff given by hotel management, we are charging that the accusation made by Goa tourism Minister Manohar Azgavkar is baseless,” the taxi operators said.
The Goan taxi operators are the most honest in their business, and many families are dependent on taxi operators, they said.
“We are ready to fix the meters, so now Tourism minister should scrap the Goa miles app as per his statement,” said Alirio Fernandes, ex-vice President of the Goa taxi association.
“We welcome the step taken by Benaulim MLA for this meeting. We have noted all suggestions and demands from taxi operators and honourable MLA, and we will place this before our management. We also want the issues to be solved, said Harshad Dessai,” representative of a Hotel.
Churchill Alemoa said many people from my constituency are dependent on the tourism business.
“Many families are in taxi business their main business is the tourist, who comes to hotels in the coastal belt. My strong objection for Goa miles to do business in the coastal belt. Government has to stop their operations. I have suggested giving every taxi association a small counter at hotels. If the counter is given, the problem will be automatically solved. I have no problem Goa miles doing the local business in the city, but if they start coming to the hotels to pick customer’s it will be a problem,” he said.
He also appealed to the local taxi to fix the meter given by the government.
Churchill also welcomes the decision of VM of having 15 years of domicile certificate to GoaMiles driver.
