PANAJI: Minister for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Nilkanth Halarnkar informed that the estimated milk production in the State is around 1.76 Lakh litres/day (around 641.80 Lakh litres per year) as per the Integrated Sample Survey (ISS).
“Estimated milk production in the State is around 1.76 Lakh litres/day (around 641.80 Lakh litres per year) as per Integrated Sample Survey (ISS),” said Halarnkar.
He further said that as per information received from Goa Dairy, 13676 litres of milk is imported per day and as per information received from SUMUL Dairy 89597 litres of milk is imported per day.
“The Department does not undertake import of milk from the neighbouring State as the same is done by Goa Dairy,” he added.
The minister also said that no budget provision has been made for the state government’s import of milk. Procurement and marketing of milk in Goa is done by Goa Dairy.
“The Government wants to make Goa self-sufficient (Swayampurna) in milk production. The Department’s target to achieve self-sufficiency in milk production by July 2027,” he added.
Halarnkar said that the following Schemes are implemented by the Department for increasing milk production i) Revised scheme for incentives to milk producers. ii) Mukhyamantri Sudharit Kamdhenu Scheme iii) Community Dairy Farming Scheme iv) Pashupalan Scheme.
