PANAJI: In yet another shocking incident, a portion of the false ceiling at Kala Academy collapsed due to heavy unseasonal rainfall thus once again raising questions over the quality of the recently undertaken renovation work.
Water leakage through the roof after the unseasonal showers on April 20 is likely to be the cause of the collapse.
Sources said that a portion of false ceiling crumpled down at Kala Academy on Monday early morning due to water leakage caused due to heavy rainfall.
Around Kala Academy, Panaji fire and emergency services could be spotted because the authorities had requested assistance in inspecting the problem.
Reports state that there was evidence of a water leak, which caused the artificial ceiling to weaken and collapse.
The false ceiling of the entire corridor was nearly falling in due to the water buildup. The ceiling’s surface was uneven since much of the water that had leaked had been absorbed, softening it.
This is not the first incident, in July 2023, a similar incident occurred. Luckily in today’s incident, there were no casualties.
The renovation work of the Kala Academy, done by spending a whopping over Rs 60 cr, has been in question over the quality of work as the same was done without tendering work.
Meanwhile, the opposition has slammed the government while demanding a detailed audit of the renovation work through the Charles Correa foundation.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao said that moments after Congress released its 21 Point Goa Centric Manifesto, an Earthquake shook BJP.
“Collapse of False Ceiling of Kala Academy is proof of Tremors in corrupt BJP Camp. The collapse of BJP has begun on 19th April & the Arrogant Regime will fall flat on 4th June 2024,” said Alemao
Goa Forward Party (GFP) General Secretary Organisation Durgadas Kamat reacting to the false ceiling collapse said that the open auditorium collapsed in July 2023 and Later Leakage of the Fire pipeline and Broken Chairs in the main auditorium in Jan 2024.
“Now the collapse of False Ceiling. Charles Correa Foundation must be immediately appointed to conduct an Audit of the works carried out at Kala Academy,” said Kamat.
BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said that he has already spoken to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in regard to the false ceiling collapse at Kala Academy.
“CM Sawant has said that an inquiry will be done,” said Tanavade.
