Panaji: The Asmita Khelo India Wushu City League concluded successfully in Pernem, bringing together Wushu athletes from across Goa for competition in Taolu and Sanda weight categories. The event provided young and senior players with valuable exposure to organised competition while allowing emerging talent to test their skills against competitors from different institutions.
The league featured athletes from schools, colleges, sports clubs and academies, with competitions conducted across several age and weight categories. The Taolu events included Changquan, Nanquan, Taijiquan, Nangun, Daoshu and Quanshu.
Among the standout performances in the Taolu events, Deepeka Gawde of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, secured first place in Sub Junior A Changquan. Poorvi and Riya, also from GHS Juna Bazar, won the Sub Junior and Junior Nanquan events respectively. Tia of St. Francis Xavier High School, Siolim, topped the Taijiquan event, while Riya Kumari of GHS Juna Bazar won Junior Nangun.
The senior categories also produced strong performances. Shabi of SSA Government College, Virnoda, Pernem, won Taijiquan, while Shabnam Shaikh of PEs College, Farmagudi, secured Nanquan. Gayatri Raut of SSA Government College won Quanshu, while Janiva Fernandes claimed gold in both Changquan and Daoshu.
The weight category events saw participation from athletes representing institutions across Goa. Niharika Kumari, Rubi Kumari, Sunaina Pednekar, Samruddhi Fadte, Shravani Jena and Mrunal Kubal were among the Sub Junior A winners in their respective categories.
Other notable winners included Giovanna of Academy of Combat Sports, Panjim, Rumaiza Baig of St. Ann’s High School, Tivim, Bhavika Joshi of Manovikas High School, Margao, Trusha Khope of Vidya Vikas Academy and Vaishnavi Halarnkar of St. Ann’s High School.
In the senior women’s categories, Rehana Alam of SSA Government College won Below 52kg, Jamana Roy of Konkan Queens took the Below 56kg title, Diya Talwar of Konkan Queens won Below 60kg, and Rupali Pednekar of Tuem Sports Club secured the Above 60kg gold.
The successful league highlighted the growing Wushu talent in Goa. The upcoming Sub Junior, Junior and Senior Wushu Nationals will be held in Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha respectively.
