PANAJI: Governor of Goa, Shri. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai launched Mashaal for 37th National Games, by lightning it in a ceremony organised by the Department of Sports and Youth affairs & the Sports Authority of Goa at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Donapaula in the august presence of Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Shri. Govind Gaude, Minister of State for Tourism, Shri. Shripad Naik
and other dignitaries.
Governor, Pillai also released Anthem (theme song) of National Games for which Legendary Actor, Amitabh bachchan has given his voice. The Goan instrument, Ghumat is used for Anthem and Goans singers along with others have given their voice for the same. A specially designed website was also launched at the hands of Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant in the function. The website contains all the information related to the upcoming National Games. PWD Minister, Shri. Nilesh Cabral, Santa Cruz, MLA, Shri. Rodolfo Fernandes; Secretary (Sports) & CEO, NGỌC, Smt. Swetika Sachan, IAS and officials from various sports associations and other dignitaries were also present for the programme.
Governor Shri. Pillai exhorted Goans to be a part of the National Games. Governor said, “This is a rare opportunity in the history of Goa to host National Games. Goa is Devbhoomi of Bharat. Our country is always committed towards unity and integrity. People from all over the nation, will be here in Goa for this national event, and we have to be ready for it. Success of this national event will also give boost to the tourism sector of our State”.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, “Goa is ready to host the National Games. The Mashal which is launched, will travel all over Goa so that, the people from rural areas also celebrate this event. We have to participate in the games to earn medal for our State. It is a great honour for Goans to host such a big event. Let us together be a part of it, in some or the other way and make this event a grand success. This should be a memorable event in the years to come. Get set Goa”, he added.
Sports Minister, Govind Gaude informed, that “the Mashal, will travel throughout Goa and in other States too for 4 days. Goa is ready for National Games. The anthem especially composed for National Games will encourage our sportsperson and sports enthusiast to participate in the event in large numbers. Seeking wholehearted support from Goans, he said, “Let us celebrate this event together. I hope everyone will join in to make the event a grand success”.
The function started with lightning of the traditional lamp. Secretary Sports, Smt. Swetika Sachan, IAS delivered the welcome address. AV clip of newly launched Mashaal was presented. Dream Catcher’s Dance group presented specially curated dance performance after the launch programme. Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa, Joint CEO, NGOC, Dr. Geeta S. Nagvenkar gave Vote of thanks.
