PANAJI: The Goa government has moved Supreme Court with a Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging High Court order to stall elections in five Municipalities, which were scheduled for March 20.
The Government in its SLP has pleaded for a stay on High Court order.
The High court had on Monday set aside the notification on reservation of Municipal wards in five Municipalities- Margao, Sanguem, Quepem, Mormugao and Mapusa.
It had directed the State election commission to initiate fresh election process and same to be completed by April 15.
Following High Court order, the State Election Commission has kept in abyeance the elections in five Municipalities.
Meanwhile, the Congress and the Goa Forward Party has already filed caveat in the matter before the Apex Court
