Panaji: The Queen Cup Women’s T20 tournament, organised by the Goa Cricket Association, commenced at the Napex Ground with two engaging matches that saw GCA Green and GCA Yellow begin their campaigns with victories.
In the opening match, GCA Green delivered a commanding performance to defeat GCA Blue by 61 runs. Batting first, Green posted a competitive total of 136 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was built on steady contributions from the top and middle order, with key batters ensuring a solid foundation and acceleration towards the end.
In response, GCA Blue struggled to gain momentum against a disciplined bowling attack. The team was bowled out for 75 runs in just 14.3 overs, as Green’s bowlers maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings. Multiple bowlers contributed with crucial wickets, preventing any meaningful partnerships and sealing a comprehensive win.
The second match of the day provided a much closer contest, with GCA Yellow securing a five wicket victory over GCA Red in a tense finish. Batting first, Red put up a strong total of 128 for 3 in 20 overs, anchored by a well crafted half century and supported by valuable contributions from the middle order.
Chasing 129, Yellow approached the target with composure. After a steady start, the innings was guided by a captain’s unbeaten knock, supported effectively by the middle order. Despite a notable bowling effort that included a three wicket haul, Yellow held their nerve to reach 129 for 5 in 19.3 overs and clinch the win.
The tournament opened in the presence of officials and dignitaries, and will continue over the coming days, with the final scheduled to take place on May 12 at Sanguem.
