PANAJI: Haryana native Manjit Tomar accused of killing receptionist of a boutique hotel in Ximer, Candolim in 2016 has been sentenced to life imprisonment by North Goa Principal District and Sessions Court in Panaji.
33-year-old Manjit has also been sentenced to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh for destroying evidence.
Tomar had stabbed to death 38-year-old George Raju Mandal from Kolkata who worked as a receptionist, while he was at the hotels reception desk. Mandal was rushed to the Candolim primary health centre (PHC), where he was declared ‘brought dead’.
Tomar had fled from the scene and was arrested after a manhunt based on CCTV footage.
Investigating Officer with his team conducted exhaustive investigation and succeeded in identifying the accused Manjit Tomar n/o Sonipath, Haryana and placed him under arrest within 24 hours of registration of Crime.
The Principal District and Session Court, North-Goa Panaji-Goa appreciated the evidence against the accused and was placed to convict accused Manjit Tomar under provision of section 302,201 IPC.
