PANAJI: The High Court has taken a serious view of the Mormugao Municipal Council’s failure to act on its earlier demolition order concerning the structure popularly known as “Murgao Cha Raja”.
The court had directed the civic body to remove the illegal structure by September 30, 2026. However, with the deadline having passed without the order being carried out, the Chief Officer of the Mormugao Municipal Council faced strong criticism from the court.
The High Court warned that continued failure to comply with its directions could result in contempt proceedings. The court has given the authorities time until the next hearing on Wednesday to carry out the demolition.
The matter is expected to come up again before the court on Wednesday, when the civic body’s compliance with the earlier direction will be reviewed.
