PANAJI: North Goa Congress candidate Ramakant Khalap hit back at power minister Sudin Dhavalikar for wasting ₹12,000 crore on the power department with no results to show for it.
Responding to a question that pointed out to him that Dhavalikar had raised the issue of the Mapusa Urban Cooperative Bank that went bust, Khalap said that Dhavalikar had become desperate since it was clear that he might be dropped from the cabinet after the elections.
“After the Congress MLAs joined the BJP, it is likely that Dhavalikar may be dropped from the cabinet so he is talking like this,” Khalap said.
“By his own admission, he has spent ₹12,000 crore on the power department. My information is that 71 linesmen and power department employees have lost their lives in the last five years. Have you given them any compensation? He should resign, but it is more likely that he will be dropped from the cabinet,” Khalap said.
Khalap said his fight was for saving Goa, its identity and to raise issues on behalf of the people of Goa in Parliament.
