QUEPEM: Cuncolim Police have registered a case of illegal mining against unknown persons for allegedly extracting and transporting minerals without permission, causing significant loss to the State exchequer.
According to a complaint filed by PSI Sudan Bhosale of Cuncolim Police Station, the illegal activity took place prior to July 3, 2024, at various survey numbers in Naquerim village, Quepem. The accused, who are yet to be identified, allegedly excavated minerals without obtaining the required licence or permit from the competent authority.
Police said the illegally extracted minerals were subsequently transported to unknown locations for personal gain.
The unauthorised activity has resulted in an estimated loss of ₹11,63,866 to the Government of Goa.
An offence has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Kishor Velip of Cuncolim Police Station.
