CANACONA: Karuna Kishore Phaldessai was elected unopposed as the new Dy Sarpanch of Agonda Village Panchayat on Monday.
The post of Dy. Sarpanch has fallen vacant after the ruling panel of five of the seven members of Agonda panchayat including Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes had ousted the then incumbent Canisha Fernandes in a No-Confidence motion.
The Five ruling members have fielded Karuna Phaldessai, a first-time panch from Mudkud ward to the post of dy. Sarpanch and she was elected unopposed on Monday.
Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes, Panch members John Fernandes, Nilesh Pagi and Ramnath Velip were presented at the special meeting held by a BDO Observer EOP Pradeep Gaude in the presence of Panchayat Secretary Amol K Naikgaunkar.
Ex-Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues and ousted Dy. Sarpanch Canisha Fernandes was not present when Karuna Phaldessai is elected unopposed the Dy. Sarpanch of Agonda VP.
It may be recalled that after the panchayat elections two years ago, all elected panch members were new faces in the Seven Members Agonda VP. Igrej-Vall ward panch Fatima Rodrigues as Sarpanch and Preettal Fernandes as Dy. Sarpanch was elected unopposed in a group of Four ruling panch members with John Fernandes and Canisha Fernandes as two other panchas,
After occupying the Sarpanch Chair for 9 months, Fatima Rodrigues submitted her resignation and Dy. Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes took over the mantle of Sarpanch and the post of Dy. Sarpanch was held by Canisha Fernandes with the ruling four group members till Canisha was ousted in a surprise No Confidence motion moved against her.
The present Five-members ruling members consist of Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes, Dy. Sarpanch Karuna Phaldessai, John Fernandes, Nilesh Pagi and Ramnath Pagi in the 7-member Agonda VP.
