Panaji: Dempo Cricket Club delivered a dominant batting performance on the opening day of the Goa Premier Division League 2025 to 26 final, posting an imposing 412 for 5 in 89 overs against Chowgule Sports Club in Panaji. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Dempo made full use of the day night conditions in the pink ball encounter at the GCA Academy ground in Porvorim.
Despite a shaky start that saw early dismissals of Aaditya Kota and Sarthak Bhike with the score at 11 for 2, Dempo recovered strongly through a crucial third wicket partnership. Abhinav Tej Rana and Aman Dhooper steadied the innings with a 139 run stand. Rana played a composed knock of 70 off 93 balls, striking eight boundaries and two sixes to rebuild the innings.
Following Rana’s departure, Aman Dhooper shifted gears and took control of the match. He scored a well crafted 124 off 166 balls, hitting 12 fours and five sixes. His aggressive approach ensured momentum remained with Dempo. He was well supported by captain Snehal Kauthankar, with the duo adding 130 runs for the fourth wicket.
Kauthankar then anchored the innings with an outstanding unbeaten 136 off 148 balls, laced with 18 fours. His innings ensured Dempo maintained control through the latter stages of the day. Wicketkeeper Jeevan Chittem provided valuable support, remaining not out on 39 as the pair stitched an unbroken 90 run partnership to push the total past 400. Rahul Mehta also chipped in with 19 runs.
For Chowgule Sports Club, Shubham Tari and captain Darshan Misal picked up two wickets each, while Pradyumna Atpadkar claimed one. However, the bowlers struggled to contain the scoring as Dempo’s strong batting lineup dictated terms throughout the day.
With a commanding total on the board, Dempo holds a firm advantage heading into Day 2 of the final.
