PORVORIM: MLAs today have demanded a rise in compensation to tree fall victims while stating that at present funds provided aren’t enough.
Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye asked whether there is a fund for disaster management to identify the dangerous tree.
Revenue Minister Babush Monserratte responded that there were 87 trees which fell during the last day due to rains. He said that the onus of identifying the dangerous trees is with the local bodies, like municipalities.
MLA Chandrakant Shetye questioned who would prove that the tree is dangerous.
Minister Babush Monserrate said that as far as the municipality is concerned, they can take the expertise of the Forest department to assess the trees and get a report from them.
