PANAJI: In the Pandurang Madkaikar bribery case, the Superintendent of Police and the Police Inspector (Anti Corruption Bureau) have received notifications from the District and Sessions court in Panjim. The following hearing is scheduled for March 19.
The seven petitioners have contended that the ACB look into Madkaikar’s claims that all ministers accept bribes and that he paid between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh to get his case approved.
Since Madkaikar claimed to have paid between Rs 15 and Rs 20 lakh, we protested to the Police Inspector (ACB) that this falls under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which stipulates that anyone found in possession of that money faces jail time.
After first complaining to the PI, we went to the SP since he did nothing. We proceeded to Sessions Court under the new BNS. Thus, the judge heard the case today (March 11) and sent out notices explaining why the FIR was not lodged, petitioner Kashinath Shetye
One of the seven petitioners, Inacio Dominic Pereira, stated that the former minister Pandurang Madkaikar’s remarks were quite upsetting. It seemed that all job in Goa is done in exchange for a bribe. If a former minister is forced to pay a bribe, what will happen to the average person? This is unsettling. The national media has also covered this subject. All I wanted was for the administration to be honest about that. Nobody is being blamed by us.
Another petitioner, John Nazareth, stated: “Under BNS, the court has the authority to order the police to file a FIR if they do not do so in a case. We went to the court as a result. The court heard the case today and ordered that the notices be sent.
