CANACONA: In a freak accident a woman was injured seriously after the motorbike she was a pillion rider skids off NH-66 road at Karmalghat on Sunday evening.
A husband-wife duo couple travelling on a motorbike with Maharashtra registration (MH09 FK8723) headed towards Margao met with a self-accident after the motorbike suddenly skidded off the road while going down the Karmalghat slope metres before approaching a sharp turn at about 5.30 pm.
The couple reportedly heading towards Margao after visiting some beaches in Canacona was assisted by a local motorist and some tourists on their motorbikes, after dialling 108 emergency services. While both fell off their motorbike, the woman was found unconscious as people provided water and tried to console the rider even as an ambulance reached.
The unconscious woman was then lifted on a stretcher into the Ambulance, while people helped to take the motorbike now damaged to the roadside.
According to a local motorist driving his car just behind the motorbike saw the two-wheeler though cautiously riding on the slope approaching a slight turn ahead, skidded off suddenly and both fell down. “I immediately applied my brakes and stopped my car a few metres from the couple and the motorbike lying on the road.’
The group of youngsters on 3 different bikes who were travelling in opposite directions and going up the Karmalghat also saw the skidding motorbike and stopped.
Interestingly, everyone was looking for and virtually searching for some oil or freshwater spillage on the road which might have contributed to the skidding incident, but told this correspondent, that though there were marks/scratches of the fallen motorbike on the road, no oil of fishwater or even wet road could be seen on the road.
Some passing motorists however stated there are faint dried-up oil marks on the road, which makes two-wheelers to skid off the road in certain conditions.
