PANAJI: A man was arrested by Panaji Police Station police for allegedly operating matka gambling activities in Panaji late Sunday night.
According to police, the case was registered on a state complaint filed by Head Constable Anil G. Kurtikar of Panaji Police Station. The incident took place on April 27, 2026, at around 10 pm near Madkaikar Building, Bhatlem, Panaji.
Police said the accused, identified as Sandeep Gawas, son of Krishna Gawas, was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting bets on numerical figures from members of the public at an open public place.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to ₹1,100 along with other matka gambling-related materials from the possession of the accused. He was subsequently placed under arrest.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by HC Anil G. Kurtikar of Panaji Police Station.
