MARGAO: South Goa Additional Sessions Judge Kshama Joshi found Abdul Kadar Javali, r/o New Vaddem, Vasco, guilty of kidnapping for ransom and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 as a deterrent.
After granting him the benefit of the doubt, Joshi cleared another accused man, Salim Khan. The case concerned kidnapping for ransom.
Rajendra Kumar Kahar, the third accused, was freed on bail and is currently evading prosecution in accordance with section 299 CrPC. In June 2018, a businessman from Vasco was abducted by the accused, who then demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
29 witnesses were questioned by the court and Public Prosecutor Devanand Korgaonkar made an appearance on behalf of the prosecution. Amit Palekar represented the first accused, Abdul Kadar Javali, while Adv K Viegas represented the second accused, Salim Khan.
The Vice Principal, PTS, Valpoi Nolasco Raposo, who is currently the Incharge of the Vasco Police Station, looked into the case and filed charges.
Businessmen at Vasco had previously developed a fear psychosis as a result of the incident, but the Vasco police solved the blind case in less than a day.
