Panaji: Mandovi Parivar emerged champions of the prestigious Chhaava Chashak tournament after defeating Palolem Warriors by six wickets in the final held at the Nagarcem Paddy Field ground in Canacona. The three day cricket tournament, organised by the Pansulem Brothers Sports & Cultural Club, was conducted from May 8 to 10 and witnessed strong participation from teams across the region.
With the victory, Mandovi Parivar walked away with a cash prize of Rs 2,22,222 along with the winners trophy, while runners up Palolem Warriors received Rs 1,11,111 and the runners up trophy.
After winning the toss, Mandovi Parivar elected to field first and produced an impressive bowling performance to restrict Palolem Warriors to 68 runs for the loss of six wickets. Surendra Pagi top scored with 21 runs, while Somesh Prabhudesai contributed 20 and Sahil Arolkar added 18 runs to the total.
Mandovi Parivar bowlers maintained tight control throughout the innings. Nikhil Pagi delivered the standout spell, claiming two wickets while conceding just nine runs. Vinesh Satarkar and Babal Zore also chipped in with a wicket each to keep the opposition under pressure.
Chasing a modest target of 69, Mandovi Parivar completed the run chase in just 5.5 overs despite losing four wickets. Vinesh Satarkar played a match winning innings, smashing 37 runs off only 15 deliveries with aggressive stroke play. Shubham also made a valuable contribution with a quickfire 16 runs from seven balls, guiding the team comfortably to victory.
For Palolem Warriors, Gurushant Pagi picked up two wickets, while Sameer Pagi claimed one scalp during the chase.
The tournament also recognised the performances of semifinalists Thunder Strikers and Aashvi XI. Individual honours saw Surendra Pagi named Best Batsman, Sameer Pagi awarded Best Bowler, while Vinesh Satarkar capped off a memorable tournament by winning both the Man of the Match in the final and Man of the Tournament awards.
The prizes were distributed by guests Shekhar Desai, Anil Dessai and Shyam Dessai, who congratulated the organisers and participating teams for the successful conduct of the tournament.
