MARGAO: Margao, the commercial capital of the State, has given several big leaders to Goa, but they have failed to look into the basic necessities of the South Goa capital.
The primary issue Margao faces today is the bus stand, which lies in shambles.
This is one of the major bus stands of Goa, which is also used by interstate buses, but sadly it has been neglected time and again.
When Digambar Kamat was teh Chief Minister of Goa, he laid the foundation stone for the bust stand. Shockingly, no work and funds were sanctioned at that time. It turned out to be just a publicity gimmick.
After that, some cosmetic repairs were carried out, but that did not help.
Every candidate contesting in Fatorda has Margao bus stand construction in his manifesto, but sadly they forget once they are elected.
Looking at the bus stand, one can only see a shade used by passengers and KTC staff.
Several potholes have developed, and some are dangerous to commuters Both the entry and exit roads have totally washed away and cried for repairs.
The bus stand had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and cattle as one can see garbage littered all over.
The Public Works Department and municipality seem to have disowned the bus stand long ago.
The passengers and bus owners face hardship with the lousy condition of roads and unavailability of facilities at Margao bus stand.
Amar Naik, a daily passenger who travels from Sanvordem to Vasco, said this Margao KTC stand has been neglected for many years and is getting worse every day.
“We have seen only announcements made by elected representatives regarding the stand, but in reality, nothing is happening, I appeal to authorities at least make the road better and give basic facilities to passengers,” he said.
When contacted, KTC officials refused to offer comments and said they don’t have the authority to speak to the media.
