DABOLIM: Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho has slammed the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer, Deepesh Priolkar, accusing him of being inefficient and incompetent, citing delays in regularising housing board units at New Vaddem. Godinho stated that he would request Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to remove Priolkar from his position.
Speaking to reporters during the launch of repair works on toilet blocks at the Housing Board Colony, Godinho expressed frustration over the pending regularisation of units, a process which the Goa Housing Board had already approved, awaiting a formal request from MMC.
“I want to come on record that the MMC Chief Officer is the most inefficient and incompetent officer and not doing any works . Despite the Housing Board agreeing to regularise these units and asking MMC to send a simple request, the Chief Officer has not acted. He is unfit to hold this position. I will personally meet with CM Pramod Sawant to address this issue and ensure that a competent officer replaces him,” said Godinho.
He accused Priolkar of obstructing progress by refusing to act after initially agreeing to facilitate the process. “It’s a mockery of the system and we cannot allow this. These houses will be regularised as promised, but not with officers like this delaying work unnecessarily. If someone cannot adjust to the system of working, they should step aside,” he added.
Godinho also praised Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for taking up the repair of toilet blocks under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The repair works, costing approximately ₹32 lakh, will benefit municipal workers and residents of the area.
“These toilet blocks had been provided by the GSL but they deteriorated over time, and although MMC should ideally handle such responsibilities, they have done nothing. I thank GSL for stepping in to address this issue,” Godinho said.
The repair works will be carried out in phases, with GSL agreeing to fund the project at the minister’s request. Godinho was joined by Councillors Sudesh Bhosle and Vinod Kinlekar during the event.
