COLVA: In a shocking incident, a canoe on board 13 including fishermen and helpers capsized off Colva beach coast due to heavy rains and rough sea conditions.
The mishap occurred at around 10 AM when the canoe ventured into the sea, which is currently choppy due to bad weather.
There were 13 fishermen on board the motorised canoe which capsized a little away from the shore in South Goa.
As per information, all 13 were rescued and shifted to South Goa District Hospital for treatment. No casualties were reported in the wake of the incident.
Information reveals that Tourist Police staff and lifeguards present on the Colva beach noticed one fishing canoe with many fishermen crying for help while their canoe overturned in the seawater.
On seeing the above incident, all the fishermen were rescued by the Lifeguards and the TPU staff.
As per the owner of said canoe Grayferns Fernandes, there were 13 fishermen on board and all 13 fishermen have been rescued.
During the rescue operation, one Lifeguard Sahil Tulaskar suffered injuries to his face and was referred for medical treatment whereas no fishermen have suffered injuries except one with minor injuries.
Sources have claimed that since the rough weather and hostile conditions hampered smooth navigation, the crew decided to return back, but was hit by a huge wave, tossing the vessel upside down.
