CALANGUTE: A 16-year-old schoolgirl who was reported missing from a school in Calangute has been safely traced by the Calangute Police following a detailed technical and field-level investigation.
Calangute Police Station registered Crime No. 116/2026 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act after a complaint was lodged alleging that the minor girl had been kidnapped by an unknown person.
Following registration of the case, police immediately activated reliable sources and began technical as well as field-level investigation to establish the girl’s whereabouts. During the investigation, police traced leads indicating that she had travelled outside Goa.
According to the complaint, the girl was reportedly in regular contact with a boy from West Bengal with whom she was stated to have a close relationship. The complainant had suspected that the girl may have been taken by the said boy.
Acting on the available leads, Calangute Police pursued the girl’s movements and conducted an extensive investigation. A police team headed by PSI Dinesh Kanolkar was deputed to West Bengal after technical investigation indicated that the minor was there. Police subsequently traced the girl and brought her back safely.
Police also stated that the girl was later traced at Mumbai, Maharashtra, as part of the investigation into her movements. She was safely brought back to Goa.
On questioning, the minor reportedly informed police that she had left Goa on her own and had travelled first to West Bengal and subsequently to Mumbai. Her statement is being recorded and police are verifying the circumstances surrounding her movements.
The boy from West Bengal who was in contact with the girl has been issued a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), directing him to appear before the Investigating Officer for the purpose of investigation.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the complete facts and circumstances of the case.
