MAPUSA: A cultural event meant to celebrate Nagpuri traditions spiraled into chaos over the weekend, with participants allegedly indulging in public drinking and misconduct at the Mapusa bus stand. The incident, which reportedly began at a prominent college in Mapusa, has drawn sharp criticism from Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza.
Speaking to the media, D’Souza expressed strong disapproval of the developments.
“It has come to our notice that the Nagpuri Cultural Festival turned into a drunken gathering. The participants, after the event at the college, moved to the Mapusa bus stand and continued their activities in an unacceptable manner,” the MLA stated.
D’Souza said he has reached out to the institution in question but has yet to receive a comprehensive explanation of the event’s proceedings. “I have called the college authorities to seek a detailed report, but as of now, we haven’t received complete information,” he added.
Condemning the public disorder, D’Souza confirmed that he has taken up the matter with multiple government departments.
“We have raised this issue with the concerned authorities. I’ve also brought it to the attention of the Mapusa Police, the Excise Department, and the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL). They have assured us of strict and immediate action,” he said.
The MLA emphasized the need for accountability and preventive measures. “This kind of public misconduct cannot be tolerated. I have ensured that stern action will be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring.”
