The employee has been charged with cheating under Section 420 of the IPC in addition to Section 408 of the same act, according to PI Tulsidas Naik, the in-charge of the Margao Police station. Police are looking into the situation and gathering evidence for the case, according to PI Naik.
MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar finally filed a complaint with the Margao police on Tuesday, accusing the Municipal LDC of embezzling Rs 17.96 lakh, after coming under fire for his inaction.
Savio Coutinho, the convenor of Margao, has vehemently demanded an investigation into the misappropriation of over Rs 17 lakh in municipal funds.
He attacked the BJP government, whose Council is now the target of yet another scam, and insisted that Vishwajit Rane, the Minister of Urban Development, and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launch an investigation into the issue and take strong action against those involved.
