PERNEM: In connection with the alleged theft of 21 mobile phones worth Rs 4.81 lakh from an e-commerce company’s warehouse in Malpe-Pernem, five parcel delivery employees from Sindhudurg have been detained.
The company’s assistant manager reported the theft of 21 mobile phones from the company’s storeroom/godown at Malpe to the Pernem Police station, according to Pernem PI Sachin Lokre.
When the police started their inquiries, they discovered that two delivery boys and employees of the same company who were involved in the distribution of the items had been involved in the theft.
Viraj Vengurlekar, 22, of Mesavada-Satarda, Shridhar Raul, 22, of Balojiwada-Kavathani, Vaibhav Satardekar, 24, of Gawdewada-Aravali, Harshal Govekar, 23, of Satarda, and Gaurav, 23, of Kavathani are the five suspects who have been detained.
Customers had ordered mobile phones through the e-commerce website from a variety of vendors, according to PI Lokre, and when the phones arrived at the corporate godown, the accused employees reportedly stole them.
The police in Pernem have recovered 14 stolen mobile phones worth Rs 3.1 lakh, and work is being done to find the other seven.
The suspects have been placed in jail, and investigations are being conducted with the assistance of DySP Rajesh Kumar, Pernem PI Sachin Lokre, and North Goa Police Superintendent Nidhin Valsan.
