PANAJI: Veteran actor Nana Patekar was brought dead to Manipal Hospital in Goa in the early hours, with doctors making sustained efforts to revive him, Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at the hospital, said.
According to Dr Salkar, Patekar had messaged a friend at around 2:30 am saying that he was not feeling well. The message was not seen immediately, following which the friend called him and later reached his residence at around 4 am.
By then, Patekar was reportedly sweating and gradually becoming unconscious. His caretaker was sent to the hospital, following which the hospital’s emergency team rushed to the residence in an ambulance.
Dr Salkar said the team found Patekar completely unresponsive and immediately began cardiac massage. He was subsequently shifted to Manipal Hospital at around 4:20–4:30 am.
“Cardiac massage was given for almost 45 minutes to an hour, but he just could not be saved,” Dr Salkar said, adding that Patekar was declared dead by around 5:30 am.
As the death was treated as a medico-legal case, police formalities were initiated and the actor’s mortal remains were later shifted to Goa Medical College for post-mortem examination.
Dr Salkar said Patekar’s family was not present at the time, while his friends and caretaker were with him.
