PANAJI: Goa will host the 2023 National Games beginning on October 25, the state’s minister of sports Govind Gaude announced on Friday. According to Gaude, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Games on October 25 and they will conclude on November 9.
The minister claimed that every Goan has always wanted to host the National Games because it will strengthen the state’s sports culture.
“In light of the National Games, sports should be promoted in the state. After the National Games, we want to encourage sports in the state, he stated.
The goal of the government, according to Gaude, is “not just to create a sportsperson for Goa but he should also play in the national team.”
The state government had agreed to release the medal winners’ rewards funds before September, and the sports minister gave assurances to that effect.
He declared that the state government will provide the associations Rs 2.54 crore as a grant and allocate Rs 73 lakh as cash rewards for the medal winners. According to Gaude, the government is open to allowing local clubs, organisations, and panchayats to take care of the grounds in their respective jurisdictions.
The minister added that preserving the current infrastructure should involve the sports associations.
He said that certain associations were not receiving grants because they had forgotten to submit utilization certifications.
.The minister also said that the Goa Youth Board, which will supervise the execution of state youth policy, will soon be established in the state.
