PORVORIM: Minister Rohan Khaunte today informed the House that new laws were being introduced because the previous ones had not been successful in modifying tourism activities.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao brought up the matter on the House floor, challenging the Goa Tourist Places Protection and Maintenance Act, which is still available for public comments and ideas. Additionally, he claimed that fewer people are traveling to Goa now.
In response to queries, Khaunte denied the claim that the coastal state is seeing a decline in tourist foot traffic.
According to the minister, tourism is an economy as well as a department. He declared, “We have to make sure that everything surrounding it is taken care of.”
According to Khaunte, the state was covered by the Goa Tourism Places Protection and Maintenance Act and the Goa Daman and Diu Tourist Legislation Act, of 1982.
The minister stated that these Acts were no longer relevant as the tourist industry has advanced so much over the years and that it was necessary to address how tourism practices are evolving.
