MARGAO: Since the Karnataka Congress government is attempting to divert the Mhadei water at Kankumbi, South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes has clarified the situation regarding Mhadei. Fernandes declared that since Mhadei is for present as well as future generations, there will be no compromise.
“If there is a Congress government in Karnataka, it makes no difference. The leadership of the Congress instructed us to defend our four rights. He went on, “The CM shouldn’t be put under duress regarding Mhadei.
“We have a very clear position. In my voice is a Goenkar. On Mhadei, we must not compromise. Mhadei isn’t meant for me and you. Mhadei belongs to the next generation. We need to keep this river safe. Fernandes stated, “We should never compromise.
Fernandes stated, “Agreed there is a Congress government in Karnataka, doesn’t matter,” in response to the question of whether or not the party is in power there. We must defend our interests. You must defend our rights, even the leadership of our Congress has instructed us. Thus, that was a strong enough indication that Mhadei would not be compromised.
I would like to inform the chief minister that we only have two parliamentary seats in Karnataka, while they have 28, so there may be pressure on you. But Fernandes warned, “Whoever puts his hand on (to destroy) Goa, will perish.”
