Mumbai: Customs officials busted the smuggling of ganja through two parcels that arrived at the cargo section of the Mumbai airport from abroad. Interestingly, there was a documentary record of ordering some trees from abroad through this parcel. However, when the parcel was opened for inspection, 204 grams of ganja were found in it. In this case, the accused named Globev Andre was arrested in Goa.
After the authorities received specific information about the smuggling of ganja, they searched the goods and seized the contraband. However, this parcel went to Goa from here. So, to arrest the accused, the officers reached Goa in disguise and kept an empty box instead of the box of ganja to give to the concerned person.
When the person entered the Goa airport to pick up the box, their identity card was checked. However, the identity card he was carrying was also found. Then they arrested him.
Contraband for 20 thousand
Globev Andre admitted to the authorities that he smuggled it for 20,000 rupees. He was then produced in the local court in Goa and brought to Mumbai after obtaining proper clearances.
Goa has recorded the biggest jump in drug seizures between 2021 and 2022. A whopping amount of a little Rs 5.35 crore worth drugs was seized in 2022. This included 12 types of substances.
Goa has become a major conduit, a trading point and a hub for the international drug trade. Goa has become the focal point of psychotropic drugs. One statistic is an early sign of warning. In 2023, 85 persons have been arrested for possession of drugs in 6 months. But that begs another question- how many kingpins and Godfathers have been picked up?
Importantly, authorities involved in investigating and acting against the international and national drug lobby operating directly or through agents in Goa have absolutely no doubt that Goa has become the focal point of psychotropic drugs.
But the anti-drug police operatives believe that the drug supply in the market is falling down.
