MAPUSA: In a significant crackdown on job scams, the Goa police have arrested a skin specialist, Dr. Meena Pooja Gop, for her involvement in a lucrative overseas job scam that duped 13 victims, including a complainant from Guirim Badez, Goa. The scam, which spanned from September 2020 to the present, involved Dr. Gop and her accomplice, Arvind Gop, who posed as recruiting agents promising jobs in sales departments in New Zealand.
The complainant, Miss Sanjana Mahesh Bhicholkar, a resident of Sorvem Waddo Guirim Badez, filed a complaint against the duo after they induced her to send Rs. 8,50,000 through various transactions, including GPay and cash, as processing fees for the overseas job. However, the accused failed to deliver on their promises and also prepared a forged visa document to deceive the victims.
Investigations revealed that Dr. Gop and Arvind Gop cheated a total of 13 individuals, including the complainant, to the tune of Rs. 27,73,540. The case has been registered under Crime Branch PS Cr. No. 18/2025, with sections including 318, 336 read with 3 (5) of BNS 2023 and Section 10 of the Emigration Act 1983.
The arrest of Dr. Gop was made under the supervision of DySP Crime Rajesh Kumar and SP Rahul Gupta IPS, with the investigation being led by PI Prashal Desai. The police are currently searching for the second accused, Arvind Gop.
