PALOLEM: A man from Palolem, Canacona, has allegedly lost Rs 95,000 after an unknown person gained access to his mobile phone through an unauthorised link and carried out a UPI transaction without his knowledge or consent.
According to the complaint lodged by Kishanbhai Mithapara, a resident of Palolem, Canacona, originally from Gujarat, the incident occurred on August 2, 2026, at around 2.48 am in Palolem.
The complainant alleged that the accused gained access to his mobile phone by sending an unauthorised link. Thereafter, an unauthorised UPI transaction of Rs 95,000 was carried out from his bank account without his knowledge, consent or authorisation.
The amount was allegedly transferred to the UPI ID belonging to a person identified as Jainab Khatoon, causing a wrongful loss of Rs 95,000 to the complainant.
Police are investigating the alleged cyber fraud and the unauthorised transaction to ascertain how access to the complainant’s mobile phone was obtained and to trace the person responsible for the transfer.
