KORGAO: Tensions ran high in the Korgao Panchayat area on Friday after a woman panch member was allegedly molested while performing her official duties.
The incident occurred at Bhaidwada when the elected representative was supervising the removal of a hazardous tree, as per an official order.
According to sources, the accused, identified as local landlord Uday Prabhudesai, along with his son Ugam Prabhudesai, allegedly confronted the panch member during the operation and proceeded to molest her.
The confrontation quickly escalated, drawing the attention of local residents and fellow officials.
An FIR has been lodged against both individuals at the Pernem Police Station.
Authorities have initiated a probe and assured that strict legal action will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident has triggered widespread condemnation from the local community and panchayat members, who expressed deep concern over the safety of public servants—particularly women—while discharging their duties.
Police have yet to issue an official statement; however, sources confirm that both accused are under active investigation and may be summoned for questioning shortly.
