PANAJI: The Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Goa Paralympic Association, is pleased to announce the Para Swimming State Championship. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 3rd August 2024 at Campal Swimming Pool, Panaji.
This championship aims to promote inclusivity and sportsmanship among individuals with disabilities. Participants will be classified into six groups based on their disabilities: Physical Impairment (including Amputees, Dwarfism, Polio, Tetraplegia, or Paraplegia, Class 1-10), Visual Impairment (Class 11-13), and Intellectual Impairment/CWSN (Class 14). The criteria for participation include a minimum of 40% disability for those physically impaired and up to 75% for those with intellectual disabilities.
The events for the championship include 50m, 100m, and 200m Freestyle (with specific classes for each distance); 50m and 100m Backstroke; 50m and 100m Breaststroke; and 50m and 100m Butterfly Stroke. The age groups for participants are Seniors (Men & Women) born in or before 2005 (19 & above), Juniors (Men & Women) born between 2006 and 2008 (16-18), and Sub-Juniors (Men & Women) born between 2009 and 2011 (13-15). Each participant is allowed to compete in up to two events in their respective class, with an entry fee of Rs. 100 per participant.
Persons with disabilities and Schools for children with special needs are encouraged to submit the names of their participants by Monday, 15th July 2024. Participants who qualify in this state championship will be eligible to compete in the National Para-Swimming Championship, scheduled to be held in October 2024.
