CANACONA: Pedem (Loliem) Boys stunned Agonda boys to Wins the Finals match to take-away the Trophy of the Agonda Village Panchayat Taluka Level Football Tournament.
After a barren match (full-time), Pedem Boys striker Rancher D’Souza scroed the first penalty –shoot in the Tie-breaker, while Pedem Boys Goalkeeper (Captain) Cajy D’Silva blocked the first penalty shoot taken by Agonda boys striker Plim Fernandes.
Ronald Olivera, Beron Fernandes, Alrich Barretto and Myron Fernandes scored the penalties for Pedem Boys, while Shain, Pritish and Romanrio could convert the penalties into goals for Agonda boys with Agonda boys losing the final match by 3- 5.
Interestingly, Goalkeeper D’Silva had wonderfull match saving as many as eight saves in his individual efforts, including three long-range shots from Agodna striker Branon Rodrigues. D’Silva is adjudged as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Agonda’s Rossman Fermnandes won the the best player trophy, while Rancher awarded fro being the 1st scorer of the finals.
Pedem Boys
The magnificent winners Agonda VP Football Trophy alongwith Cash of Rs.40,000/- is handed over to Pedem Boys at the hands of NRI Commissioner and Ex-MP(South) Adv. Narendra Savoikar. Agonda boys had to be content with Runners-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs.30,000/-.
Stating Canacona has lots of talent especially in football, GFA Executive Committee member Francisco Nunes suggested Canacona should field teams in GFA conducted league matches.
Stating Agonda panchayat wants Canacona residents to excel in sports which eventually helps in skill development of the individuals, Agonda Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes aplauded the participation of the teams from all over Canacona and assured to contine people oriented works for the society at large.
Agodna Sarpanch Fernandes donated the income generated during the 7-days tournament by way of conducting Housies and other activities to the Goushalaya being constructed in Gaondongrim village and also felicitated the Agonda Health centre, Police outpost and the the talukas Sports-Cell for their support during the tournament.
BJP State Secretary Sarvanand Bhagat, ZP(Khola) Shanu Velip, Khola Sarpanch Krishna Velip, CMC Ex-Chairperson and Councillor Simon Rebello,, Canacona APEO Kishore Bandekar, Sidharth Dessai, Agodna panch members Ramnath Velip, Nilesh Pagui, Karuna Phaldessai, Dy. Sarpanch Canisha Fernandes, were present on the dais. The organisiong team of Gilbert Fernandes, Sandeep Dessai and Sidharth.
The function was compeered by Sharendra Naik.
Earlier in the semi finals Agonda boys have defeated Palolkem boys by 2-0, while Pedem Boys did the short work of Canacona U17 by 3-0.
