VASCO: In a tragic accident that occurred beside the exit gate of Dabolim Airport on Monday evening, a black Alto car, driven in a rash and negligent manner, struck a pedestrian, Maria Cleta Antonieta Eulalia Varela E Pires, a resident of Carambolim Corlim-Goa, as she was crossing the road from the exit gate of Dabolim to the other side.
The driver, who initially fled the scene, has been identified as Yashpal Singh Negi, a resident of Headland Sada, Mormugao-Goa. He was arrested by the Vasco Police but has since been released on bail. The incident, reported by Shri Suresh Dassar, HC-4642 of Vasco Police Station, took place at approximately 5:50 PM on Monday.
Despite the immediate medical attention provided, Pires succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at GMC, Bambolim. The driver failed to offer any assistance or report the incident to the authorities, exacerbating the severity of the situation.
The case has been registered under sections 281 and 106 of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 134 (a) and (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act. LPSI Archana Gaonkar is leading the ongoing investigation to uncover further details surrounding the incident under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
