DABOLIM: Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho emphasized the importance of supporting central government projects, stating that opposing such initiatives only hinders the progress of the state and country. Godinho made these remarks on Wednesday during the launch of work to shift pipelines for the reconstruction of the railway overbridge connecting New Vaddem to the four-lane highway at Shantinagar. Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar and officials from the Railways were also present.
“This project is essential due to the congestion on the current narrow bridge, which worsens during peak hours, affecting students and office-goers. We proposed a broader railway overbridge to allow two-way traffic, doubling its size. However, we need to shift the pipelines before starting the reconstruction work. Although the bridge will be closed during the project, we have requested the Railways to construct a small footbridge for pedestrians,” said Godinho.
Acknowledging the support and cooperation of the Railways and the public, Godinho urged people not to resist developmental projects. “This is an era of progress, and sitting on minor issues to stop projects benefits no one. It only keeps the state and country lagging behind. Similar issues in Vasco and Shantinagar were resolved through discussions, and I urge others to do the same. All issues can be resolved by discussion and not by agitations,” he added.
Highlighting the success of past projects like the Konkan Railway, Godinho said, “People once opposed the Konkan Railway, but today they use it extensively. Central government projects ultimately benefit everyone, and we must support them instead of objecting to them.”
Godinho concluded by stating that challenges can be resolved through dialogue, not agitation, and urged citizens to prioritize progress for the greater good.
